In between a surprisingly productive weekend, I finished reading Space by Stephen Baxter. It's a very good book, with an absolutely staggering scope of activity, and that is at the same time its major flaw: Baxter attempts to cover, in 500-odd pages, enough material to fuel an entire library worth of science fiction. It gets almost comical: an event of the order of "an entire alien species is discovered, has a philosophical crisis, and is wiped out" is covered in less than ten pages, and there are lots of events of that order in this book. Well worth the read, nevertheless.
From the sublime to the ridiculous, I was amused by this article in the Onion today, and also by the antidote to the DMCA -- if you make copying movies a religion, then freedom of religion beats the DMCA.
