A darkness growing in the East...

Adding to Seldo The White's rapidly-swelling army of orc-blogs, tremble in fear and awe at the spawning of Mikey, who was far too polite to actually ask for a blog, but clearly needed one. Volunteers to do his CSS for him?

Oh, how fickle is my tender heart...

Yesterday, I was going to blog approximately along these lines: Love is bullshit. I am increasingly tired of the bullshit that is meeting and dating people. I will check you out, I will judge you, you will judge me, we will base these judgements on incomplete and often inaccurate information. Why do we pretend otherwise? It's all just a hopelessly inefficient arrangement in which we attempt to find someone who will agree to fuck us, and then the emotional attachment evolves post-hoc as a way of tying us together a little bit more firmly. It's all a glorified mating instinct dressed up in the rationalizations our frontal lobes invent to keep us from realising just how close to animals we are all the time in everything we do. And no one has agreed to fuck me. Therefore I am worthless, and I should stop trying to impress people with my personality since all of that is the bullshit part and if they don't like my body the rationalization that they love me for who I really am will never kick in. Bitter and...

My friends are hilarious

Some background: Ed lives in New York. Raymond lives in Boston, Massachusetts. They have a long-standing argument over whose city is better (despite the fact that NYC clearly rocks, Raymond refuses to give up). From an e-mail conversation today... Raymond (talking about his job, on assignment in another state): They have YET to justify to me why the fuck I'm in this state. So far I've decided that it's just cause my boss's in-laws are in town. Ed: What state? MA? I often wonder why you choose to live there too. Raymond: Well I certainly wasn't going to choose NY. Ed: I can't hear you under those 3 feet of snow.

I'm getting a cold, so it's just a straight cut-n-paste job from my scratchpad. Commentary is for people who feel better than I do. *ATCHOO*! The BBC was the least-impartial news source for the war in Iraq, devoting less than 2% of its war coverage to anti-war viewpoints -- even less than ABC and CNN. (How can this be true?) The iWire blog continues to be cool and interesting. Matt of Defective Yeti continues to be funny, currently about this unborn baby: But it wasn't until The Queen came home from her first Nurse / Midwife appointment with sonogram in hand that the truth really sunk in: I was now the proud father of what appeared to be a packing peanut. Wow," I said upon looking at the image. "You get 50 more in there and that uterus is ready to ship!" (Note: do not say this to your wife.) Building your own snowflake is soooooooo cooooooool. Much fun. Everwood is yet more WB bullshit with pretty people to which I would become addicted if I saw even one episode. The world needs more...

I've been ill

In case you've been wondering where I've been the last few days, I've been sitting around the house mainly feeling ill but also continuously reading Something Positive, an excellent webcomic originally recommended to me by Sadiq. It's got geek humour ("I BUKKAKE FOR JUSTICE!"), gay humour ("If you were any more of a cock, I'd find myself sucking on your forehead"), random humour ("Mommy! I can feel their evil words burning away my innocence!"). But above all, it has Choo-Choo Bear the polymorphic chemo-cat (aka "Kitty-Putty").

I got a scanner

I've been doodling in meetings at work for four months now. They're beginning to get quite elaborate, and everyone knows how much I hate losing anything I've created. This is obviously not any good at all, but then, my first blog entry really sucked too, and I've done some stuff I'm proud of since then. Gotta start somewhere...

My mission

Every song I hear, every word of the lyrics, every note of the tune; every painting, every stroke; every page of every book; every frame of every movie and video fills me with jealous rage that others could find the time and the opportunity and possess the skills to produce what I could not. Forget all the other subsidiary goals in my life: the ones about having a boyfriend, having a nice place to live, having a great job, owning my own company, feeding the hungry, lifting the poor out of poverty, curing cancer. Whether selfish or selfless, those are simply things I would like to do or just have happen. They are not my mission, they are not what drives me to do things. They are simply milestones along the way, things that tell me I might be getting there. My mission is to create. I don't care what I create. I will try my hand at everything, and create reams of absolutely dreadful dross in every field of endeavour. I will practice 'til my vision fails and my hands creak and mind goes but I will...

Random link dump

Godfuck and buggery, work was boring today. Roll on vacation on Wednesday! Yes, kiddies, I'm off to Trinidad, where it's hot and doesn't go dark at 4 in the afternoon and there is honest-to-god SUNSHINE available. You people can have your white Christmas; mine will be tan. (Or more likely burnt, as I tend to overdo the sun-worshipping. Mmm, After Sun...) Anyway. Links! Bob the Angry Flower appears on I am Hitler! But the question is am I sexier than hitler? Currently Hitler is winning; apparently the moustache was the problem. "We do know, however, that it was we who scorched the skies...". From the 1960s to 1990, pollution in the atmosphere significantly reduced the amount of sunlight reaching the earth's surface. This hampered global warming, and also made things darker, especially in industrialized nations. Things have been getting brighter since then as countries have moved away from industrialization. As a result, global warming may be self-regulating: the increase in temperature combined with...

The Tropics Are Hot

So it's annual family vacation time, so I have scuttled back home several thousands miles to the tiny islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I've just spent the last three days on Tobago -- with no Internet access, but gaining a tan -- and this is just to let you all know that I am officially Not Dead™, but don't be expecting anything meaningful for a while. Tropical sunsets are so beautiful they look unrealistic.
