A funny thing happened to me today. I was reading this article about President Bush, and for a split second there, I almost respected him. Weird, huh? But as the article points out, despite Bush's many failings, the Bush administration -- run by people much cleverer than Dubya -- is actually doing quite well (at least on the international front. Don't yell at me; I know the tax cut was a bad idea). The Bush administration has:
  • Responded in a relatively measured and sensible way to the threat of Al-Qaeda, and waged war in Afghanistan so effectively that people have now stopped sniggering when they mention the "war on terror".
  • Forced a much tougher UN resolution on Iraq, and enlisted the support of both China and Russia on that. On top of that, it has successfully used a real threat of force to gain what currently looks like full Iraqi compliance to that resolution.

Of course, there was that whole sponsoring-regime-change-in-Venezuela thing, and of course both Rumsfeld and that crazy fuck Ashcroft still have jobs, which detracts somewhat from the positive picture, and admittedly the good stuff is in spite of Bush rather than thanks to him. But hey, it hasn't been all bad, which is more than I was expecting when he got pseudo-elected.

Of course, you may disagree, and in fact this blog may make you violently angry. In which case, don't take it out on me. Grab your rifle and drill a hole in your trunk, it's time to play beltway sniper the game! All the fun of picking off innocent civilians, with none of the hassle of being arrested.
