The ages come, the ages go\r
\nWho knows to where the ages flow?\r
\nAnd swept along into the past\r
\nWe come, our lives like to a raft\r
\nLashed together as we go\r
\nOn to where the ages flow\r
\n\r
\n

We spend our lives concerned with selves\r
\nWe do not care about the shells\r
\nUpon the shores of time's great river\r
\nEvents which change the flow from hither\r
\nto thither, we care not of the others\r
\nin our raft, our friends and brothers\r
\nwe care not where the great rafts go\r
\non to where the ages flow\r
\n\r
\n

And is this right? Should this be so?\r
\nDoes it matter where we go?\r
\nShould we try to guide our course?\r
\nAgainst the flowing river's force\r
\nShould we take our course to heart?\r
\nSo even though our raft soon parts\r
\nAnd crumbles to the river's floor\r
\nOur children should find all the more\r
\nCourses, paths and streams to follow\r
\nSo they have more in the morrow\r
\nSo they guide to whence they go\r
\nOn to where the ages flow\r
\n\r
\n

The answer's not in any doubt\r
\nTo make our rafts more strong and stout\r
\nThey must get better paths to take\r
\nAnd once upon them they can make\r
\nA million changes to the flow\r
\nOn to where the ages go\r
\n\r
\n

So make your children's lives mean more\r
\nAnd cast your shells upon the shore.\r
