Contrary to the views of my classics-loving friends, I actually really liked Troy. Yes, it wasn't true to the legend, but Lord of the Rings isn't true to the books either and that doesn't mean they were crappy movies. Yes, Pitt doesn't have nearly the gravitas that Crowe did in Gladiator. Yes, the whole horse thing was unbelievably stupid, as was the whole \"we hid 1,000 big-ass sailing ships in the bay next door\" trick. But on the other hand, it was three hours of gorgeously realised sets, beautiful shots and grand cinematic spectacle. It may not have been accurate, but it looked real. It was pretty. And, truth be told, that's all that I demand out of cinema these days.\r\n
